The Midlife Fashionista

For quite a while I've been thinking about changing the name of my blog. I've been wracking my brain trying to come up with a name that "fits" (no pun intended) my mission.  And then it dawned on me--The Midlife Fashionista! My goal is to show my fellow midlife sisters that getting older doesn't have to be dreadful...in fact, it can be quite stylish! We can choose to hide ourselves under shapeless frumpy clothes, or we can embrace our bodies and dress to the nines. Clothes are powerful. Clothes are empowering. Clothes lift self-confidence and boost self-esteem.  Clothes are important tools for image and branding, Clothes can help to get you a job. Clothes can even brighten your day. Use them to your advantage.

So here I am at 53, a middle-aged style blogger. It could sound like an oxymoron to some, but to me it feels great. I'm having a ball living out my passion, playing dress-ups, and helping women to shine all at the same time.  Yep, I have those days when I hate my neck or I don't recognize my hands (whose hands are those anyway?) --but it's all a part of life.  On a recent photo shoot with my best friend/soul-sister, and photographer Cathy Trainor, I asked her to photoshop the mile-high veins that popped out in my hands. "But why?" she asked..."they're YOUR hands!" So here's my promise....no photoshopping out wrinkles (OK maybe in clothes but not on my face!), lines, age spots, or muffin-top bulges. And the hand veins will make an appearance on many occasions. What you see is what you get.

I hope that my blog gives you outfit ideas, the inspiration to try new looks and a little push to be the best you can be at any age. One thing that you will not find here however, is a spec of dowdy.

Welcome to The Midlife Fashionista.

XO Susan

P.S. These are MY hands and I'm proud of them! Thank you Cathy for pointing that out to me and for taking such amazing photos.
