Wearing jeans this New Year's Eve, but want to spice things up a bit? Here are some easy to wear tops that will ring in 2014 in style!
1. Silk automatically adds sophistication when paired with denim. I love this blush color which mixes beautifully with black and gold...so chic!
2. A sequin top is all you need to add glamour. Keep jewelry to a minimum and let the sparkle be the focal point.
3. I love this mixed media top with a leather panel. It says understated yet modern and a bit edgy at the same time. This is a fabulous piece to wear for a casual night out (or in!). Add a statement necklace for even more pizzaz.
4. You can't go wrong with animal print! You can make this top as dressy or casual as you want depending on your shoes and accessories. Tuck skinny jeans into riding boots for a more laid-back look or wear with heels to dress things up. Pour on the rhinestones or simplify with hoops and a great watch.
5. Embellished top. This gorgeous patterned top with a bit of sparkle jazzes things up without looking too dressy. Again, you can dress this top up or down depending on what you pair it with.
Happy New Year Everyone! xo

My new client Elizabeth wrote an essay on her feelings before we started working together. Does any of this resonate with you? Why do YOU hold on to clothes that no longer work for you?
"Your closet should be filled with only those pieces that you love and look great on you!"- Susan Kanoff
Ok,
so how often have you thought this, heard this, or said this? Is the answer usually the same? The precious object usually stays put: on the
shelf, in the closet, in the attic or in the basement. Rarely will it be worn or used, let alone see
the light of day.
Why
do we, against recommendation or advice, hold fast onto certain possessions? For several years now, I have been
contemplating hiring a fashion consultant/closet makeover wizard, but before I
could commit to making an appointment with her, I knew I had to come to grips
with knowing that she was going to tell me to get rid of a lot, ok probably
most, of my clothes, shoes, and accessories. I could just hear me defend…”What? Get rid of the hand painted silk blouse and
floor length skirt that my mother wore 40 years ago? NO! The material is
priceless!” Was I really going to be able to follow
through with her advice to donate or consign the investments I had already made
or been given?
Let’s
just take the challenge of a wardrobe. There are as many reasons to cling as
there are personality characteristics, but here are a few:
·
We are sentimentalists; such saps we think that the long gone still care,
or we want to pass it along, because some day it will fit someone and be
cherished.
·
We are hoarders; we love to have a large inventory just in case
·
We are egotists; we can’t admit it was a mistake to buy it in the first
place, or by virtue of owning it, we are a notch up on those that don’t have it
·
We are masochists and want to punish ourselves by wearing it despite how
bad it looks, doggone it.
Do I
really suffer from these sometimes-unflattering psychoses? I’ve always been a
firm believer that we all exist on one continuum or another of the many defined
personality disorders – but what I really want is some order. To simplify my daily routine such that it
brings me more pleasure and less angst, thereby freeing me to give more time to
activities and people I enjoy.
Ahh.
I’ve stated my goal, but what about all of those devilish traits that are
lurking in me? How can I overcome them?
There
are some well-known beliefs to help accept the “get rid of it” mantra– Feng
Shui believers and/or architectural minimalists or not – less is more. To see space, to feel space, is uplifting and
energizing. Lack of chaos is also
calming. To have some semblance of order, even just in the closet, when life is
throwing us so many curve balls, is comforting and positive. And hey, admitting
mistakes is not easy, but as those of us who have done it in the past can
attest, there is a cleansing feeling after admitting wrong, almost as if the
weight of the world has been lifted off our shoulders. Let it go and move on.
I
believe in all of that, and I am therefore convinced this is good process to go
through, and one that will be rewarding on many levels. I’ll breathe through each toss into the give
away box. But one more question: can’t I just do this myself? Is hiring a consultant
the right path for me – an investment up front for reward longer term?
This
is my answer to that. There is just one
of me, and at least four alter egos ready to stop me in my path to serenity and
beauty. Go it alone? Are you kidding?

Put these handy "can't live without" style tools on your Christmas wish list
Tis the season for pilled sweaters! This handy fabric shaver from Remington will keep your sweaters in perfect condition all winter.
If you're like me and hate to iron, this fabric steamer is a "must have". You'll be surprised at how it compares to the more expensive models and how fast and easy it attack wrinkles.
Are your handbags getting squished piled on top of each other? I love this system for storing handbags (it's called a handbag file) because it conveniently keeps bags dust free and in tip-top shape.
The PurseN handbag organizer makes it simple to switch bags! This item is truly time saving since it can take forever to change over the contents of one bag to another.
My favorite hangers in the world are the slimline velvet covered ones. Not only will they take up less space in your closet (freeing up room for more clothes!) but they'll keep your clothes in good shape as well...no more stretched out shoulders! One tip, buy all of your hangers in the same color to keep your closet looking sharp!

I put together a similar outfit for a client the other day. I love the mix of tweed and faux fur---it looks a little "Mad Men". We found a fabulous sweater (very much like this one) at Banana Republic (see here) and a gorgeous tweed skirt on sale at Lord and Taylor (see here) for under $50.00. Stunning!

The cold weather is already causing my skin to become dry and dehydrated.....and winter isn't even here yet! I figure that I'll look like a prune in another month if I don't do something fast! Although I've been slathering on the cream, it hasn't seemed to make much of a difference.
I recently interviewed the staff of Suite 103 in Salem, NH for a Merrimack Valley Magazine article and I fell in love with the spa right away. This warm and inviting oasis offers so many fabulous treatments for the skin and body. Heather, one of the owners encouraged me to try a HyraFacial, which I had never heard of. This non-invasive treatment offers deep cleansing and hydration while infusing the skin with peptides and hydralaunic acid. Sounds great...I'll try it!
This is a great treatment to get before a holiday party, wedding, or any other special occasion when you want your skin to look amazing-- or do it once a month to have glowing skin all the time! Yikes, this could be addicting!
So today, I experienced my first HydraFacial and let me tell you....my skin looks and feels great!
I was pleasantly surprised that it was painless (yes!), easy, fairly inexpensive ($119 but less when you purchase a series) and only took about thirty minutes. The results are already amazing...my skin glows and looks & feels more plumped. Julie, the Esthetician was incredibly professional and knowledgeable. I learned so much about my skin in the thirty minutes spent with her.
You might wonder exactly what a HydraFacial will do for you? Here are the benefits:
- Glowing and refreshed skin
- Stimulated collagen which means a more toned look
- More even skin tone
- Reduction of pore size
- Less redness
I can't believe that I'm posting a photo of myself without any make-up, but I want to show you how good my skin looks after this procedure!

What are you wearing this Thanksgiving Day? Here are two different outfits based on the same color palette...purple and black. Dress casually with a silk top, jeans and heels or go a little dressier with a ponte knit dress (so comfy & warm!) and boots. Add a cape and you're looking mighty stylish for turkey day!

Spending five days in Charleston was like a little slice of heaven...it is one gorgeous city!
Richard and I had so much fun exploring. We walked miles every day photographing
the stunning scenery. The houses simply take your breath away...one is more striking than the next.
And the restaurants!! Charleston is truly a foodies paradise. From Gospel brunch at Hall's Chophouse to a dinner under the stars at Macintosh, we ate our way through the city. And we had the best dessert ever, a sinfully decadent layered carrot cake, at Lana Restaurant
So other than the city's beauty, rich history, nightlife and amazing food...the SHOPPING was also fabulous. Charleston has style. Women know how to dress...I saw a lot of gorgeous outfits cruising around town!

King Street is boutique central. With a wide array of fabulous shops, there is something for everyone.
Loved the name of this shoe store!
And although I'm not much of a hat girl myself, I would have bought this sophisticated red one if it was in my size.
I stopped in at Scout and Molly's, a friendly and welcoming shop that features trendy but wearable clothing and accessories.
Some of my favorite pieces at Scout and Molly's were this fabulous orange and navy print top from local designer Escapada.
And LOVE this adorable print dress by Jade!
If you're a consignment shop lover, this city is for you! There are some amazing second hand boutiques that feature treasures galore. My favorite was The Trunk Show which featured one of the largest selections of Chanel I've seen!
Of course I couldn't walk out empty-handed, so I scoffed up this Rebecca Minkoff bag for just $120.00!
The Old Marketplace is brimming with energy and life. Vendors sell everything from hand-woven baskets to gorgeous scarves, crafts and jewelry.
The Charleston Place Hotel has a beautiful upscale shopping area. Of course I had to browse at St. John and Kate Spade!.
However the highlight was meeting jewelry designer Leslie Willis, owner of Leslie Willis Jewelry who was there showing off her creations. The line is simply elegant and gorgeous. Which is your favorite piece?
And yes, I gave in to temptation and bought a gorgeous pair of silver and Swarovski Crystal earrings!
On the way, to Kiawah Island, a spectacular place to vacation or just spend the day (as we did), I couldn't resist stopping at Freshfields Village , a beautiful outdoor shopping center jam-packed with unique boutiques. My favorite store was Holly and Brooks, the cutest shoe and accessory boutique brimming with amazing shoes, boots, bags, jewelry and more. From FABULOUS (really fabulous!) Frye boots to Vince Camuto and Donald Pliner, Holly and Brooks has all the best names and great prices to boot (no pun intended!).
They also sell via their website in case you can't get out to Kiawah any time soon.
Notice the comfy furniture for the guys to rest while the women shop.
It worked wonders to soothe Richard's shopping anxiety!
Just writing about my vacation makes me want to go back to Charleston. I'll end this blog with a sign that hung in a store window. Isn't this what we all want to hear?
