Today is my step-daughter Leah's graduation from my alma mater U-Mass Amherst. Temps will be in the 80's (yay!) so I'm breaking out a summer dress. This blue and white print Betsey Johnson dress is prefect for the occasion because it won't wrinkle during the hour and a half ride out to western Mass. Since the dress is busy, I downplayed accessories with simple hold hoops, my Michael Kors gold watch (with the slightest bit of bling), gold J. Crew sandals (from the outlet--comfy to walk in) and a cork J. Crew clutch that goes with everything. A white denim jacket makes the outfit casual for a Saturday afternoon. TGIF! It was a crazy/busy week and I am SO glad the weekend is here! Heading out to do errands in Gap slim cut boyfriend jeans in a light wash, my new favorite top from J. Crew (on sale in stores!), silver metallic flats, a DKNY silver watch and a bit of ear candy with these crystal earrings from Ann Taylor Loft (found them on clearance for $1.88--yep I was jumping up and down!) Happy weekend everyone!

and my feet are happy because they're so comfy!
My motto is "every outfit needs a fabulous watch"...and I have many of them! Why not?
Today's outfit is a mix of stripes, bling and animal print-- and although it might seem like an unlikely combo, it works.
Here's how I put it all together.
As most of you probably know, I'm not a big fan of the "matchy-matchy" look, however there are always exceptions to every style rule. There is a huge difference between looking "matchy", which can translate into "overdone" and looking coordinated. My vote is for coordinated.
Today I'm wearing lots of and lots of navy and although you "technically" could call it a lot of "matchiness", I happen to think it works. Here's why...
Trick one---vary materials and textures.
I paired faded Joe's skinny ankle jeans with a navy Ann Taylor Loft flowy blouse and finished the look with a Vince navy leather jacket. There are three different types of materials going on here as well as varying shades of blue--all giving the outfit dimension.
Trick two--Change the color of at least one piece (generally an accessory or shoe). These nude suede Trotters pumps (so comfy!) break up all the navy . My jewelry is silver (silver hoops, watch and ring) and although I was tempted to wear my blue lapis ring, it would have been overkill.
Trick three--Add an embellished bag. Yep, more navy but this Michael Kors bag has a
silver detail that pops.
Trick four--Certain colors work best in large doses.
Those colors are your neutrals: white, cream, black, gray and navy.
Use caution when trying to match bright colors.
Trick five--Go classic. Classic simple pieces work best when wearing a lot of the same color. Nix the ruffles, sequins and fancy details.

The hoop earring is so under-rated. It's the perfect accessory to just about any outfit because of it's versatility. The simple classic hoop works with everything from jeans and a tee to a work dress. Going out? Try an embellished hoop for a classy & sophisticated look. Funk things up a bit with a geometric or double loop hoop. Taking a trip? A pair of hoops will be your default earring. Play with sizes and widths to land your most flattering style. If you have a round or full face, try an elongated, oval or geometric shape. The classic hoop will also work for you, but careful of small hoops that can look out of proportion. For a thinner (or small) face shape, oversized hoops can be tricky as they can look overwhelming. Does your wardrobe contain a great pair of hoops?
