We all know how amazing Nordstrom's customer service is....easy returns, super nice sales people, in-house tailor, yadda yadda yadda. But last weekend I experienced an even higher level of excellence from Nordstrom.
On Friday night, I did a little last minute shopping for something to wear to a family gathering in Connecticut. Of course I didn't "need" a thing, but this adorable navy dress was calling my name. "Susan, buy me, buy me!". I had to listen.
On Friday night, I did a little last minute shopping for something to wear to a family gathering in Connecticut. Of course I didn't "need" a thing, but this adorable navy dress was calling my name. "Susan, buy me, buy me!". I had to listen.
But low and behold, after I got home I realized that the security tag was inadvertently left on the dress.
I wasn't mad at all, after all these things happen. However I called the store to see what I should do. I figured they would tell me to bring it back the next time I was in, or that they would send out a new dress. But NOOOOO!!!
Nordstrom sent manager Eli Santiago to my HOUSE with a device to take the tag off! Nordstrom you never cease to amaze me!!
And of course Nordstrom has the highest caliber staff.
Eli was super professional and just down-right really nice!
The opportunity was absolutely ripe for a blog--I mean how perfect is this?
So off to Connecticut I went with the dress.
This dress was perfect for eating a big meal...it was so loose and comfortable! After a feast of lobster, onion rings, calamari, Prosecco and dessert I could still breathe! Yay for room to expand!
Here's how I accessorized the dress. Keeping in line with the boho style, I chose these feather earrings from Luxa Jewelry.
And these casual gold strappy sandals were perfect for a walk by the water after dinner. Similar HERE and HERE.
My fingers and toes have Essie Fifth Avenue polish on them (love this color!)
And I chose a tan cross-body bag to keep things casual.
While I was away, I received this email from Eli.
Hey Susan,
It was my absolute pleasure to be able to serve you. I thank you greatly for your grace with giving us an opportunity to make this right for you. I would hope that your experiences while shopping with Nordstrom are matched if not surpassed by that which I was able to provide for you yesterday evening. I was honored to be welcomed into your home and to be able to chat it up with you and your husband, and not to mention be a part of your blog! It is customers such as yourselves that remind me why I do what I do, and why I love what I do. Should either of you need anything in the future do not hesitate to reach out to me directly. Myself or my team will be more than happy to take care of you.
Thank you for your time,
-Eli

There are so many reasons why I love Nordstrom. But this time of the year, it's their cardholder's holiday event that really excites me....they really know how to throw a party! Recently, my dear friend Linda Holt (interior designer extraordinaire) and I attended this private shopping extravaganza together, but we had more than one reason to celebrate since the night marked the end of Linda's breast cancer treatments. It had been a long haul for Linda and we were ready for some fun.
The crowds were greeted with champagne and appetizers.
Drinking and shopping is a dangerous combination for me!
Linda and I had so much fun playing with the selfie props!
These photos are after just ONE glass of champagne!
The store was decorated so beautifully for the holidays. I have to give kudus to Nordstrom for waiting until after Thanksgiving to put up the Christmas decor!
Uh oh, handbags...I'm in trouble!
An Ugg advent calendar...how clever!
And then there was the candy bar....this was ALMOST as good as the champagne!
After a few glasses of champagne, I managed to do some serious damage. Here's what I bought:
several comfy Gibson fleece tops a Joie silk blouse, Madewell high rise jeans, Deborah Lipman nailpolish (which I've been dying to try!), and a pair of gold flats. Oops, I forgot to
buy holiday presents!
Cheers to Linda's health!
For decorating inspiration, check out Linda's blog...you'll be so glad you found it!
Happy holidays!

I'm also wearing Fabrizio Gianni's amazing cropped techno pant. I can't say enough good things about this pant...the elastic waist is incredibly comfy, the cut and fit is just right, and it goes with just about everything from a tee and sneakers to a silk blouse and heels.
The no-wrinkle fabric makes it the perfect travel pants too!

I just got back from Charleston, SC. It was my second trip to the city and it's quickly becoming one of my favorite destinations. If you've never been, you must go--there's truly something for everyone. If you're a foodie, you'll love the low-country cuisine. If you're a history buff, the city is rich in history and culture. If you're a shopper like me, it's paradise.
I shopped and shopped..I shopped until I almost dropped. Up and down King Street, Queen Street, East Bay, and everywhere in between, I discovered so many amazing boutiques. Let me introduce you to a few of my favorites...if I had to list them all this blog would be way too long!
Noddy is the cutest little boutique that's jam-packed with unusual pieces for just about everyone. From exotic skin bags by Taxidermy to fabulous stone necklaces and household items, you could spend hours poking around the shop.
Check out these "mommy and me" python Chucks (by Taxidermy)
The jewelry selection was amazing---each piece was so unique!
Some of my favorite pieces were these antler box clutches, also by Taxidermy
Billy Reid
So you might be wondering what I bought on this Charleston adventure. Because I only took a carry-on and didn't have much suitcase space (dumb move on my part), I had to restrain myself from going crazy. But I did get a few amazing pieces like this Cynthia Rowley leather bag in the most gorgeous shade of blue from the Cynthia Rowley Boutique on King Street.
Although Billy Reid is a clothing line with stores across the U.S., the Charleston location felt like a small-town boutique. We chatted it up with the staff--everyone was just delightful! After hanging out with them for over an hour, we felt like we had made new friends.
The clothing (men's and women's) is a bit of everything....it's classic, preppy and even a little edgy. It's modern and hip and so well made. It's quality.
Love the color of these lace-ups.
What I really love about the line is that it cuts across all age brackets. I could see many of the pieces appealing to the 20'something crowd, yet my 77 year old mom bought a Billy Reid dress! I could easily have maxed out my credit card. Everything I looked at, I wanted!
The boutique is absolutely gorgeous and so well laid out. The atmosphere made for relaxed shopping.
Say hi to store manager Becca, who is expecting her first baby in January!
I couldn't believe how comfortable these gold fringe loafers were...
not to mention I felt kind of "cool in them.
Becca encourage me to try on the shoes, but I found the leather vest on my own.
It was tough to part ways.
I loved spending time at this hidden gem tucked away in the French Quarter Arts District of the city. Although the space is very small, the shop is filled to the brim with whimsical and unique ceramics, jewelry, pairings and sculptures.
Loved these handmade earrings!
Isn't this the sweetest tray?
I found a Christmas gift for my daughter Alyssa, but I can't show it since she reads my blog!
Every woman should have the perfect button down and the place to find it is Shirtini--where there's an entire boutique dedicated to the "shirt". They have flannels, silks, cotton...casual and dressy. They even have a few shirt-dresses and a small but beautiful collection of jewelry and accessories.
And I picked up a few holiday gifts that I can't show (or the cat will be out of the bag!).
Next trip I'm bringing an extra suitcase
We ended the trip with Sunday Gospel brunch at the one and only Hall's Chophouse. Gospel music and amazing food (sweet potato pancakes and eggs!) equals heaven!
I can't wait to do the Charleston again!
Y'all have a wonderful day!
