Over the past few years, I've noticed major thinning around my hairline, brows and lashes. I used to have super thick hair, so it's disturbing to see the changes.  My lashes were never very long (grateful for mascara), but they also weren't stubs like they are now!

I had heard good things about Vegamour from researching online and also from other influencers who have talked about the products.  I like that they contain sustainably harvested organic plant extracts cruelty free (Leaping Bunny) and made with safe vegan formulas.  I was looking for a chemical-free option that was actually effective and I found it.  I also like that the GRO Hair Serum isn't heavy or greasy and doesn't weight my hair down. 

A few months ago I started using the GRO Hair Serum twice a day and the GRO Advanced Lash Serum once a day --so far, so good!

Does Vegamour Really Work?

Let's me say that there is no miracle for regrowing hair.  Even some of the strong over the counter products like Minoxidil are not going to grow back a head-full of hair. So I was not expecting Vegamour to work magic, but what I did notice is less shedding and lots of new baby hairs growing in around my hairline.  I'll take it!

Let's talk sleep, or lack of it in my case. I've been sleep deprived for years due to multiple factors including menopause, stress, and health issues.  Lack of sleep causes real problems that can impact physical and mental health, work, relationships, our appearance, and the way we function in the world.  The statistics are staggering. Insomnia has had a huge impact on me, as well as those around me (sorry Richard!).  When I'm sleep deprived, I'm irritable, anxious, stressed, overwhelmed, and downright unproductive. When I sleep too late in the morning then I'm behind on everything. It's not a good feeling! Sleep issues have also had a negative impact on my energy level and physical health. Being in a chronic state of sleep deprivation might make you feel like eventually that becomes "normal", but it's NOT! By the way, in case you didn't know, sleep is the third pillar of health along with diet and exercise, and it is crucial for our wellbeing!  I learned this here. 

But it's not all gloom and doom.  I am thrilled and honored to be a part of the Seize the Night and Day campaign to bring awareness to insomnia.  The information is eye opening (no pun intended) and has helped me to incorporate better sleep habits that have truly made a difference in the quality and quantity of my sleep. I've learned so much about insomnia, both the facts and myths.  

I'm happy to say that I am finally sleeping better. I've carved out a sleep routine including cutting screen time  before bed, decreasing my daily caffeine intake, going to bed at the same time every night, listening to a meditation to help me doze off, and keeping my room as cool as possible (I get SO hot at night!).  There is a ton of valuable information on the website, so take a peek here and share with others who are also having sleep difficulties.

The weather has been gorgeous here in New England, but it won't last.  All of a sudden the temps start to drop and it's COLD!  I'm not a fan of winter, but I do love cozy coats to stay warm.  And Appleseed's has a beautiful collection of outerwear to brave the elements!

I was recently introduced to Tiosebon, an innovative walking shoe that is flexible and moves with your foot.  I have lots of trouble finding comfortable shoes, so I was excited to test them out.

Last Friday Richard and I planned to spend the day on Plum Island, MA. My son-in-law's parents own the cutest little cottage called The Sugar Shack, and we were grateful to use it. We packed up the car and looked forward to a picnic on a quiet area of the beach.

But low and behold (and just our bad luck), the key-pad on the house wasn't working so we couldn't get in. This meant that we couldn't change into a bathing suit, use the bathroom, and didn't have silverware to eat our lunch.😟  We tried to reach my daughter and son-in-law, but no one answered...it was "one of those broken-play days".

• Peloton's app is free for three months. You don't need equipment or a lot of space to do many of their workouts (which are  fabulous). They even have yoga and meditations.
• Keep a pitcher of ice water on the kitchen counter as your "go to" drink instead of juices, soda or other sweet drinks.
• If you're dying for comfort food make your own healthier versions.  I made this eggplant parm recipe the other night and it was great (I cut back on the cheese). 
• DON'T buy junk-food. Out of sight, out of mind. Stock up on healthy snacks like fruit, veggies, popcorn (my fave),  hummus, etc.  If you must have something sweet check these out HERE and HERE (I'm addicted) 
• I'll be getting this portable workout machine soon, so I can pedal while I work or read.
• Schedule exercise into your day just like you would an appointment or lunch-date. 
• Substitute a little agave syrup, applesauce, date syrup (love this one) or Swerve for sugar if you must bake. There are some fabulous healthy dessert recipes out there! Nora Cooks is a great website.
• Leave a plate of cut-up veggies out for snacking. I find if they're pre-cut and easy to grab, I'll go for them first (before I raid the cabinets and fridge). 
• A hot cup of tea has many health benefits and can be filling and satisfying. I drink this one every day...it's delish.
• Get a good night's sleep--this has helped me tremendously.
• Limit the news you watch. 

• I no longer have to shave my legs as often (thank you hair thinning).  
• No periods make life a heck of a lot easier and cheaper!  The money that I used to spend on pads and tampons, now earns me an extra mani!
• No more worrying about birth control or getting pregnant...woohoo!
• It takes me less time to blow-dry my hair because I have less of it.  
• I've mastered the art of dressing stylishly in layers.
• I know how to fold a mean paper fan.
• I speak my mind more.  Don't mess with a menopausal woman!
• I try new things.  I started a non-profit called Uncommon Threads in my mid 50's!
• And the most important benefit of menopause is the open and honest dialogue I can have with my friends.  We laugh, cry, and bond over our crazy life changes.  There's a type of menopausal sisterhood hat comes with the territory.

• Get a small fan to cool you off at night.  
• Keep ice water on your bedside table--sipping something cold can help with hot flashes.  This bottle will keep your water cold all night.
• Reduce caffeine and alcohol. Sorry, this is a time in your life you'll want more not less. However both can make hot flashes worse.  My new favorite "drink" is organic pomegranate juice in a pretty wine glass (closest thing without the alcohol).
• Eat as healthy as you can and reduce your sugar intake.  These sugar-free cookies have become my daily treat. They're SO good!
• Exercise--even if it's just a walk!
• Dress in layers so you can peel them off when you need to.  I tend to wear sleeveless tops with a jacket or cardigan.
• If painful intercourse is an issue for you, talk with your gynecologist.  There are lots of ways to make this better!
• Finally, find your tribe of menopausal sister for support
