The year of the arms

I think many of you can relate to this blog.

Please don't think I'm whining or complaining, but I do have to vent.

Midlife body changes suck. There I've said it.

I'm getting older and I accept it.  Overall, I'm pretty happy with myself and how I look.  But once in a while I get tripped up. It's those times when I see myself up close in a photo, or from behind in a 3-way mirror.  It's then that I get a dose of reality. The image of how I look in my head doesn't quite match up with what's really going on.

Most recently, it was my elbows that gave me a jolt.  My husband took a photo of my backside giving me a glimpse into what my arms really look like from behind. Whose elbows were these anyway? Certainly  not mine! It must be a joke---after all I never had saggy elbows! As a matter of fact, my arms used to be pretty darn fabulous. These old lady elbows couldn't possibly belong to me! But they do.

Please don't misunderstand me. I don't want to pretend that I'm 20. I'm 54 and proud of it. But life goes by so darn fast, and in a flash body changes occur.  Sometimes the changes seem to appear overnight, and at other times they sneak up on us when we least expect it.

Like I said, I am happy with myself. But on the other hand, it is a bit scary how little control we have. Aging is a reality and a part of life that just can't be changed. It happens whether we like it or not.

So I'll keep going to the gym, moisturize religiously, and try to eat healthy (do Twizzlers count?).

It may be the year of the arms, but I'm wearing sleeveless anyway.
Elbows, take that!
