Valentine's Day at The Compass Rose Inn

This year Richard and I decided to do something different for Valentine's Day. With a blizzard expected and frigid temps in the single digits, we wanted stay local and avoid walking around in the freezing cold. We are huge fans of Newburyport, MA--a lively seaport town that has fabulous shopping, excellent restaurants and gorgeous scenery. In the middle of town, sits a stunning inn called The Compass Rose. We've passed it a million times, always saying how "one of these days" we should try it out--so we got a last minute reservation and away we went.

The Compass Rose is a federal reproduction built (and owned) by the incredibly talented and well-known builder Al Clifford. From the floors to the woodwork, the attention to detail is amazing. The place is gorgeous!

It doesn't get any more "New England' than this! We felt welcome the minute we walked into Compass Rose. Gloria, the innkeeper, is so friendly and nice. She makes each guest feel special! All five rooms are spacious suites consisting of a living room (complete with a working fireplace and logs!), a nice sized bedroom and a huge bath. There were so many special touches that you don't find at other inns...Lindt chocolates, Molton Brown bath products, refrigerator, complimentary bottles of water, Keurig machines in each room, candles in the windows, two sinks, heated towel racks, and a delicious home-cooked breakfast to start off the day.

The working fireplace is such a nice touch---especially on a cold and snowy night!
