Eyeglass shopping the easy way

Monday, August 10, 2015

I wrote about Warby Parker over a year ago when I was asked by the company to review their fall line of eyewear. I loved their concept---inexpensive yet stylish prescription glasses that can be ordered from the privacy of home. After losing my $700 progressive glasses a few months ago, I decided to pull the plug and give Warby a try. I hate spending hours waiting in line at the optical shop, so I liked Warby's "shop at home" concept.  Plus their glasses are hundreds of dollars less---nice!

I went on Warby's site and chose five pairs of frames that seemed like contenders. The site is easy to navigate and has great photos of the glasses on a model, so you can actually see how they look.

The frames shipped out to me free of charge and in a week (today) I received them neatly packaged in a little box. Nothing is charged to your credit card until you make  a purchase. If you don't like any of the frames, you can send them back (postage paid) and order more to try.

It kind of felt like Christmas....I love getting packages in the mail! Why thank you Warby Parker!
But then I tried them on....hmmm.....

Contestant #1  I look ridiculous. The glasses are the size of my whole face. I look like a nerd.

Contestant #2 There is no way in $%^& I'm wearing these (although you have to admit the  cellophane is  nice touch.)

And contestant #3, please come on down. I take that back, please go away--back in the box with you.

#4 NOPE, just nope.

And #5....hey, I kind of like you! These aren't bad!
And with a little make-up  and brushed hair, I think I can make them work!
What do you think?

So for $345 vs $600+ at the optical store, I'll get a pair of progressive glasses, frames, lenses and all. Not bad!
The order will go in tomorrow and I'll keep you posted on how the glasses come out.

Have a good night!
